Automation Engineer I
Job Description
The engineer will perform basic design, development and test automation systems, computer systems, networks, and computer software. Conduct the installation, commissioning, validation, and operation of automation systems. Interface with client Engineering and Maintenance personnel to provide service and support on automation projects.
Learn to use and apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques. Assist with writing specifications and training. Learn to develop knowledge of industry, customers, and external standards.
Most of the technical time is spent as a builder (builds and programs the actual system components and follows applicable standards). Less than 5% of their time is spent on Client/People Management. Less than 10% of their technical time is spent as an Architect (building a framework to meet the client’s needs and applies appropriate standards).
Develops planning and organizing skills for projects. May assign and check the work of one to five technicians or co-ops. Usually does not supervise other automation engineers. May peer review work of other automation engineers.
Develops interpersonal, collaboration and teamwork skills.
Works under close supervision. Work is reviewed for accuracy and adequacy and conformance with prescribed procedures. Duties are assigned with detailed oral and occasionally written instructions, as to methods and procedures to be followed. Results are usually reviewed in detail and technical guidance is usually available.
Focuses on assignment-related activities. Ability to achieve results will have direct impact on the organization's quarterly and yearly goals. Individual’s impact on organizational quarterly and yearly goals are measured from a technical competence, financial, and customer relationship perspectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write, Test, Peer Review, Document, and Demonstrate Quality Code.
- Design Basic Automation Systems.
- Define and Complete Project Tasks.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering discipline or equivalent experience/knowledge
- Have zero to two years of experience with Industrial Automation and/or Digital Transformation technology.
- Live in or around the Southern NH or Boston metro area.
- Have own transportation or ability to travel to customer sites.
