Job Description

We are seeking an Automation Engineer I to join our talented Andover, MA team. The start date is the May-June timeframe.

This entry-level position is an excellent opportunity for a new graduate or motivated engineer looking to gain hands-on experience with industrial automation systems. The role involves programming, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting automation solutions under the guidance of senior engineers. Most of the technical time will be spent as a builder, focusing on developing and implementing automation solutions while gaining exposure to industry standards and best practices. The Automation Engineer I will report to an Engineering Manager and will interface with client Engineering and Maintenance personnel to deliver high-quality service and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, troubleshoot, and test PLC, HMI, and SCADA programs.
  • Design, develop, and test basic automation systems, computer networks, and industrial software.
  • Assist in the installation, commissioning, validation, and operation of automation systems.
  • Provide field service and emergency support as needed for automation projects.
  • Collaborate with client Engineering and Maintenance teams to provide automation solutions and technical support.
  • Learn and apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques in automation engineering.
  • Assist with writing technical documentation, specifications, and training materials.
  • Participate in code peer reviews and technical discussions to ensure quality and best practices

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field
    • 0-2 years of experience in automation, control systems, or industrial engineering
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical supervision skills
    • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with engineering software tools
    • Excellent communication skills, both client-facing and internal
    • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet the technical demands of high-stakes projects
    • Have own transportation or ability to travel to customer sites.
    • Willingness to travel to client sites as needed (typically 10-30% travel)

Additional Experience/Qualifications

    • Experience with Inductive Automation’s Ignition platform and Allen-Bradley’s Studio5000 software. (Ignition Core or Gold certification would be a HUGE benefit!)
    • Familiarity with Smartsheets or similar project management tools is a plus
    • Internship or hands-on experience with automation or control systems
